  • Street Corner Meetings | Mt Eden

Street Corner Meetings are an old-fashioned form of local democracy. If you haven't been to one before, they are an opportunity to share your concerns with me as your local MP.

The format is simple. For a few minutes I explain how I'm seeking to represent you, then open up to your questions, comments, and ideas. Each meeting takes about 25 minutes before I move to a new corner.

As the Parliamentary term nears its half-way mark, I'll be grateful to hear how you think the government is doing. What do you support, where would you like us to take a different tack? From past experience, I know people will share concerns I need to hear, often for the first time.

One thing that I've been really heartened by is the number of students and young people coming out to participate in Street Corner Meetings. These meetings are for everyone in the Epsom Electorate. The dates, times, and locations are below, so please get involved.

10:30am Cnr Mountain Rd & Almorah Rd
11:00am Cnr Gillies Ave & Domett Ave
11:30am Cnr Owens Rd & Marama Ave
12:00pm Cnr Windmill Rd & Hasbury Ave

  • Ukraine, NZ, Europe – Stronger Together

Community meeting with HE Lawrence Meredith, European Union Ambassador to NZ

Prior to taking up his current appointment, Lawrence managed relations and cooperation with Eastern Partnership countries to promote EU values and interests.

He led 180 passionate and motivated civil servants, of which 90 worked in EU Delegations, and oversaw an annual cooperation budget of EUR 500 million.

In response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Lawrence redirected EU support to help meet immediate humanitarian needs.

Lawrence has a First-Class Honours Degree from Oxford in French and Russian.

  • Community Meeting | Giving Back

Community meeting with Dame Julie Chapman DNZM

Dame Julie Chapman founded the KidsCan Charitable Trust in 2005, and Pet Refuge New Zealand in 2017. In December 2024, she was appointed a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to children and the community.

Kidscan provides physical and nutritional support to New Zealand children living in poverty.  Julie was inspired to found KidsCan after learning of children staying away from school because they didn't have raincoats. Julie began running the charity out of her garage, with a grant of $40,000. By 2022, the charity had grown to an annual revenue of more than $20 million.

Pet Refuge New Zealand is a charity that provides temporary shelter for family pets affected by domestic violence at its purpose-built shelter until they can be reunited with their owners.
