Drive 4 Hearts, presented by Professor Julian Paton

Community meeting with Professor Julian Paton a professor of physiology and Director of the Centre for Heart Research.

Professor Paton combined his passion for Land Rovers with his life's work in heart health research by driving a 1948 Land Rover across New Zealand to raise over $300,000 to help combat Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in children. Yes the one David drove up the steps of Parliament!

Professor Paton will explain how the funds raised are supporting world leading research on the development of a groundbreaking living heart valve for children with RHD. Being alive, this new heart valve uniquely grows with the child’s heart so negating the painful and often treacherous repeated open-heart surgeries.

Julian will then conclude speaking about the special Land Rover itself, the 20th ever made and known affectionately as ‘20’. He will describe the epic adventures experienced on the mountain passes and travelling across some of the country’s most breath-taking scenery.
